OVERALLL
・Probably they didn't need to call this play ABT since almost no themes were shared from the movie. Maybe they could have done it as a newly written play.
・Most of the scenes were adopted with comedy lines which made the whole cringe to me. Even when people are beaten up or dying, they can't help but make jokes. It wasn't funny.
・All the gangs were speaking in Kansai dialects which sounded like characters from the YAKUZA game.
・阿成 was fucking psychopath hating Mark sm and Shin is a son of the boss.
・Kit got injured too but more than in the movie or he screams dramatically.
・Kit hates 豪哥 fr and he even said die already.
・Age of Bloom and Yumeji's theme from 花様年華 were playing before the opening. Idk why. There were other song references eg; Fly Me to the Moon which I'll be mentioning later but FYI there were no songs from the movie. All the songs were newly written by Japanese composers. I couldn’t catch the lyrics much but
・As the plots presented, 豪哥 and Mark were illegal immigrants from Beijing to HK, hoping to start a new life due to the societal and economic conditions in China in the late 1980s.
⇒ 5 years later if I remember correctly, Kit and his dad came to HK to join 豪哥.
・They literary deleted Jackie. She was replaced by a friend of Kit. Which I think they missed the whole point. Jackie wasn't close to 豪哥 and even wanted him to leave HK at first. But she gradually started to support 豪哥 as she saw how hard he was trying to be good. so I think that shows exactly what John Woo wanted to show, a caring heart. While Ray (the friend of Kit) could have been the role of Jackie if he had more essential parts ig. He never came across as 豪哥 but convincing Kit to forgive him was kind of nonsense.
・Taxi company was replaced by the company where they deal with scrap iron. Well, that wasn't bad I'd say but why did they need to change tbh I feel like working at the taxi company represented how 豪哥 turned "normal" deliberately while driving local ppl and cutting ties with triads. For that reason, I don’t know if isolating himself from the real world was a good idea or not.
・John, the boss of Kit is related to Shin and he is the one betraying the police force. Because of him, 豪哥 was flamed and the police assumed that 豪哥 killed his boss.
・豪哥was like I have nothing but you(Kit)
Damn, u 豪哥 you don't give a shit about your blood brother Mark while 豪哥 literary said "I worry about you Mark" after riding on the rickshaw which Mark was pulling. This scene didn't make sense to me as suddenly 豪哥 and Shin were on the carriage without any explanation(or I missed it). Probably Shin forced him to hop on.
Even in other scenes, 豪哥 continues to call Kit as "only one" or "only brother" even in front of Mark and no line for 豪哥 where he said Mark is my best friend.
・Also Mark was repeatedly saying I don't have anyone other than 豪哥 but you have everything your brother and your dad. Spoiled Mark is quite similar to Korean ver. In some scenes where the three of them are standing together, Mark is standing a bit far from 豪哥 and Kit which I think they intentionally directed that way to show how Mark was feeling lonely and isolated. Since I couldn't find anything good in this version of 豪哥, I couldn't understand why Mark was obsessed with him either. They don't talk about Indonesia so they missed some information.
・it's just my interpretation but I don't think Mark is the kind of person who feels jealous of Kit nor blames 豪哥 for not helping him to beat Shin. Most of the remakes of ABT always portray Mark as a poor guy who wanted to be a real brother with 豪哥 but that never happened. I can't agree with this idea tbh, YES even the original Mark would have thought that way but he never said it to 豪哥. He knows he's not supposed to bc that is a form of insult to both Kit and 豪哥. He's not that childish.
・Actually this 豪哥 is also fucking selfish that he says I only have you to Mark after being beaten up by Kit. The original 豪哥 made it clear that Kit is his brother and Mark is his best friend....don't make him choose one of them...Mark also said to leave that stupid kiddo alone which I don't think Mark would have ever said to 豪哥 if he truly understood how precious his brother is to 豪哥. That was similar to the Chinese version of ABT where Mark questioned 豪哥 which one of me and Kit would choose if you had to pick one.
・豪哥 says if he could go back to the past, he would want to be back to normal and never be involved with triads. I don't think the original 豪哥 is not regretting what he did bc he thought that was the only way to help his family at that time and he wasn't sorry for it. That was another point which made me wanna choke myself cause 豪哥 saying he shouldn't have been involved with Triads Aldo denying his past and downing Mark😭😭
・legendary 阿sir, scene was damn short Ho called Kit, and right after like in 3 seconds, he said 阿sir without hesitation.
・Somehow they decided to let Mark drive a motorcycle in Taiwan but took it away from 豪哥 when he came to help Mark. He was riding on a bicycle. That was their attempt to make it look funny but that was a damn serious scene. Not funny. The good thing is they literary did "Fallen Angels". You know if you know^^
・Mark: "We used to kill it wearing three-piece suits before"
Wrong, you have never worn suits. Mark Literary has never worn a suit or jacket in the entire time. I genuinely don't understand how they didn't wear coats or suits. The only person where exactly like what Mark and 豪哥 were wearing was John, the traitor detective.
・豪哥 dies in the harbour scene.
Sorry, I don't remember much about this scene as I was disappointed about how they retold that scene from the legendary harbour scene in the movie.
・Kit was to shoot Shin but 豪哥 snatched the gun and shot Shin by himself saying that Kit has to stay on the right path. Uhm this scene was a bit difficult as John Woo was originally planning to let Kit shoot Shin but 龍哥 didn't agree with it since he thought Ho was the one to end everything that he started and also Kit handing the gun to 豪哥 shows his forgiveness and understanding to what 豪哥 has been doing. In the musical ver. there was no exact scene like that and it wasn't clear how Kit's emotions changed over time. Compared to the Korean movie in which Kit shoots Shin and kills himself, the Japanese ver. was acceptable but anyway, 豪哥 has passed away. Like for what Wth is tomorrow
・“We can even fly to the moon if we are together” was one of the weirdest lines ever and they used wire to jump off and pretended to be flying to the moon(at the exact moment when 豪哥 was dying). I get the point that Mark feels almighty just being with 豪哥 but that didn't have much significance.
At least they could have played "Fly Me to the Moon" which also makes me laugh by recalling Squid Games. It makes sense although if they used Fly Me to the Moon for the soundtrack and made it highlight how Mark was longing for 豪哥, endured all the bitterness and hurts just to wait for him to return as the lyrics say "You are all I long for. All I worship and adore". Maybe I should draw something following the lyrics but it's a 456/218 song to me. Never mind it's a story to tell another time.
・Mark: He(豪哥)must be proud of you (Kit)
For what quitting his job and living in HK doing nothing The last bit was cringe to me. They were like Ho is dead, and HK will change rapidly but we will continue to live in HK where all the people we love are living. That's what they mostly say in the last 20 minutes or so. They merely never mentioned about the hardships of HK but I think the writer suddenly remembers "omg we need to talk about HK more Ok we gonna squeeze it into the last bit".
・They were also like We gotta talk more about tomorrow since that is the title. They suddenly started to sing a song like We believe in tomorrow was kinda unnecessary. What is great about the movie is that even though they never mentioned a single word of the future, hope or tomorrow, we can feel it. The slogan for the Korean movie was something like "the last thing we bet our lives on was tomorrow" which I think is suited to the significance of the movie. I know, I know they want to say that they continue to believe in a better tomorrow even tho HK will change a lot but with 豪哥 dying, I don't see a point in talking about the future. As ya'll know I'm a 豪哥 freak.
・I really wanted them to kill Mark as that was the form of friendship and his destiny which he sacrificed himself for his blood brother even though he has no relation as family with it.
