UntitledTwo mobile suits in space, the Red Gundam and a blue Rick Dom, hovered near the Zeon army battle training area. It was just a little while before the training start, and the two of them were on stand by at their position.
The Red Gundam pilot, Char Aznable, a Captain of Principality of Zeon’s army, switched on the communication line on his mobile suit and start speaking. ‘Skin-to-Skin Commline’ mark was shown on the display inside the cockpit.
“Lieutenant, can you hear me”
The pilot of the Rick Dom, Lieutenant Challia Bull, answered through the commline. “Yes, Sir. What is it”
“It’s nothing, actually. I just feel like talking while waiting for our turn. Does it bother you”
“Not at all, Sir, go ahead. Only the two of us can hear our conversation anyway.”
Char leaned a bit on the cockpit chair, already had his helmet off. “…The more we fight, the more I feel that us soldiers, everyone at Solomon, are only being used as a tool by the Zabi family. At this rate, even if we win the war, there will be no ‘future’ for us.”
Challia agreed in silent to Char’s words.
“I can’t forgive them for that, Lieutenant. For the sake of the future of newtypes, the Zabi family must be defeated after all.”
“Yes… Captain.”
Even though this is probably the first time he heard Char blatantly expressing his thoughts, Challia wasn’t surprised. Back then, when Char asked him to form an alliance so he doesn’t need to struggle between Gihren and Kycilia anymore, one might thought that it was just Char wanting an exceptional soldier like Challia on his side, just so he could take all the credits in this war. However, being a newtype who can sense people’s thoughts and feelings, Challia knew that Char has a lot more than that on his mind. The way Challia sensed an unpleasant change on Char’s heart whenever he talks about Zabi family, leads him to conclusion that beyond winning this war, Char’s ultimate goal is their fall.
“When the time comes for that… Will you fight together with me, Challia Bull”
Challia was taken aback for a bit hearing that question from his superior. Not because of the question itself, which he already predicted would come sooner or later, but because the way Char called him by only his name instead.
“Is something the matter” Char asked again from beyond the commline, noticing Challia being silent instead of giving his usual immediate reply.
“Does that mean… Even after we’re no longer in the military, Sir”
Hearing that, Char let a grin formed on his face. “You really are a sharp-minded man, Lieutenant. My intuition was right to have you as an ally the moment we met.”
“I’m sure you can also guess how after this war ended, most likely the Zabi family wouldn’t mind getting rid of everyone whom they don’t see useful anymore. Even if they’re the very soldiers who helped them winning this war. They’re that kind of people.”
Challia continued listening to Char’s talk in silent.
“No, actually… Since Kycilia might have find out about my identity, I’m almost sure she would get rid of me first after the war ended. In that case, I probably have to left the military sooner than I expected…”
Challia noticed Char saying something that they never talked before, and how it might implies that Char has been faking his own identity all this time, but Challia preferred to set that topic aside for now. It’s not the time for that. He believes that eventually Char would tell him about it anyway, since there would be no more secret between them from now on.
“The point is, if that happens, then you and I are no longer subordinate and superior anymore. I won’t have any authority to give you commands or anything like that. However, Lieutenant… I personally want you to be by my side, as you are the only one I can trust to be my MAV. I believe that you would understand my vision and reasons to continue fighting against Zabi family.”
Char fixed his position into sitting straight, as if to show his determination on his statement. “Therefore, I’m asking you again… Will you, as a fellow newtype, be my comrades and fight together for the future of our kind, Challia”
Challia, with his usual immediate response and without any doubt in his voice, answered, “Of course, Captain Char. It would be my pleasure to fight alongside you anytime you need me. I want to see the ideal world of newtypes that you envisioned come true.”
“Thank you, Lieutenant. I guess I really am blessed with luck and good intuitions, for being able to find a great comrade like you.”
“The feeling is mutual, Sir.”
Char wore his helmet again and back on the stand by for attack position in his cockpit. Somehow, he sounded even more determined than before.
“Now we really need to win this war even more, don’t we”
