The first version of the DayTez fic that would later become "At the Drive-In Tonight" on AO3. First time I wrote from the final part instead of from the beginning.

At the Drive-In Tonight Beta ver.The roar and claps made by the deinos pulled Daybit back from his reverie. On the screen, the movie finally reached the last part of falling action as the final girl plunged her knife into the masked villain’s chest. He noticed that some of the deinos who were terrified at the beginning were cheering and clapping with their companion. The sight made the young man smiled a little. He reached into his popcorn bucket, but his fingers only scrapped the butter residue at the bottom. He was so absorbed by the movie he quickly ran through all of his popcorn.

    “Enjoying yourself”

Tezcatlipoca appeared from the shadow of the trees and promptly sat beside Daybit.

“How’s the showing at Mexico City” asked Daybit.

“A big fucking success The Ocelomeh went from wary to heated up as soon as the prop section was up and running. Izcalli surprised me, tho. Guess cosplaying as the masked terror did wonder to his confidence.”

The god then made the mask appeared on his hand and covered his face with it. “How do I look, bro”

“Terrifying. It’s not too different from your jaguar mask.”

The blonde-haired man took the mask off. “That’s the highest compliment I got from you,” he grinned, then looked at Daybit’s popcorn bucket.

    “I’ll get another one.”

“No need. I got one already.” Tezcatlipoca took out a full popcorn bucket from behind him and shook it in front of Daybit. Daybit sighed with relief, now that he didn’t have to worry about missing out the finale.

They sat down in silence, popcorn bucket placed between them and the only noise coming out from them were the sound of their hands reaching down the bucket and the munching of popcorns. The sight of the rising sun on the screen and the peaceful score marked the movie’s final scene. When the final girl was reunited with her parents, Daybit realized that Tezcatlipoca already rested his head on his shoulder. The god didn’t take his eyes from the screen, continuously munching on popcorns, but under the projector’s light fatigue was clearly showing on his face. He had been working hard for this event much like Daybit, stretching himself thin just to make sure nothing fell apart until the end.

Daybit guessed his Servant’s relaxed attitude was because this time his worst assumption didn’t happen. He, too, felt happy that he could watch a movie again. This moment wouldn’t last in his memory, but it was all worth it.

As the reel finally rolled in the credit, both the Master and Servant huddled close. The sound of standing ovation filled the air and became their fanfare for a small yet precious victory.
