　今は昔、水木という男がいた。
　血液銀行に勤めており、以前は大層な野心家で、明け方に帰ることも珍しくなかった。ところが、ある事件に巻き込まれてからは、人が変わったように穏やかな性格になり、母親と二人、ひっそりと暮らしていた。
　ある雨の夜、水木は墓穴から赤ん坊が生まれるのを目撃する。手に掛けようとしたが、なにか思うところがあったのか、抱き締めると、そのまま自宅へ連れ帰った。
