But sometimes he’d sleep through the quiet warning bells in his head regardless, drawn into a deep sleep, courtesy of prolonged sleep-deprivation, and Uki would find himself being shook awake by another one of Noctyx’s members – usually Yugo, whose room is closest to Fulgur’s.

「今日が満月って知ってたか？」

夜の散歩から帰ってきたふーふーちゃんが、玄関で出迎えた俺にハグをするなり唐突な質問を投げかけてきた。

「ううん、だからこんなに外が明るかったんだ」
「あぁ、よく晴れてるから余計に」

満足したのか俺の身体を離してドッゴの脚を拭くふーふーちゃんの横を擦り抜けて空を見上げれば、そこにはまんまるのお月様が浮かんでいた。

「どうりで星の声が静かだと思った」

一等星を除いて月明かりに姿を隠している星々は、まるで後ろに引っ込んでこちらをそっと見ているかのようだった。

「…浮奇には星の声が聞こえるのか？」

目を丸くしてこちらを見てくるふーふーちゃんに、俺は首を傾げた。

「言ってなかったっけ」
「初めて聞いたぞ」
