　はしゃいだクララに連れられて、僕とアズくんは、ガヤガヤ森のウァラク☆大いも掘り大会に参加、見上げる程のお芋の山を築いた後は、落ち葉のプールでたっぷり遊んだ。
　さつ魔いも掘りは朝からだったのに、気付けば日は傾きかけていて、涼しい風が吹いている。夕方の気配になんだか寂しい気持ちになった途端、クララがチッチッチ〜、と得意げに人差し指を振った。
「イルマち、アズアズ。お楽しみはこれからだぜ」
　お楽しみ？　揃って首を傾げる僕らの手を引っ張って、クララは鼻歌を歌う。向かった先では、薪が僕の背丈ほどの大きな井桁に組まれていた。――もしかして。

アスファルト　まだ七月も上旬なのに、どうしてこうも暑いんだ。近頃の地球はおかしい。グラスにかいた汗の量、室内のききすぎた冷房、全て億劫になるくらいの日差し。

「これから、ホテル行かない？」
　言うと思ったよ。自然と溜息が出る。コイツも日差しにやられたのか、呆れながら俺はグラスを手に取り熱を逃がす。
「こんな真昼間から何言ってんだ」
「ヒショしよう。避暑」
　今こうして喫茶店に来ているだろ。平日の昼間なんだから九十分制でもないし、長居してもいいはずだ。俺はストローでハニーオレをかき混ぜながら、二回目の溜息を吐く。
「……汗かきたくない」
「バスも付いてるじゃない」
「そういう問題じゃない」
